A note about the title of this blog. I was trying to be clever. The 'KNERD' is an acronym for the members of my family: Kendrick (that's me), my sons Nathan (4), Eric (10) and Ryan (1), and my wife Diane... 'KNERD'. The 'K' is silent, so it sounds like "nerd" (a little double entendre there).
I don't know why I decided to start a blog this weekend... it's one of the busiest weekends we've had in a long time. I won't bore you with all the details. Just most of them :)
So, today, we had Eric's 10th birthday party. He turned 10 on Sep. 11 (of all days), but we didn't get around to celebrating it until today. He had 5 friends out and we went bowling. What a hoot! Let's just say that proper form was thrown out the window. After half a game, I had them put the bumpers up 'cause I was tired of seeing gutter balls. They all had a lot of fun, though. Here's some pictures from the party they had after.
Of course, Eric (being a 10 year old boy) wanted a cake that looked like Wolverine had slashed through it and blood was coming out. Diane was all too happy to oblige. Turned out pretty cool :)
Last night, Eric and I delivered 173 bags and flyers to homes around the neighborhood for the 5th (or 4th) annual city-wide food drive for the Calgary Interfaith Food Bank. Last year, we broke the Guinness world record for the largest single day food drive with over $1.1M worth of food collected. I can't take much of the credit because there are over 7000 volunteers from all six Calgary stakes of the LDS church that go out every year and blanket the city. It's a great thing to be a part of, though, and a good experience for the kids. We'll go out tomorrow morning to collect the food, and hopefully we'll break last year's record!
Right now, Diane is making a cake for the wedding of one of my coworkers. She has another wedding cake to do next week and when that's over, that'll be four weddings she's done just in the last two months. They've all turned out amazing so far. On Sunday, we'll get to go to Maggie's wedding to see how it all turns out. I enjoy being able to see my wife's cakes "in action"... I don't get that opportunity a lot.

On top of that, we're in the middle of ripping out the floor in our main bathroom and half of the drywall to fix a moisture problem we've had. Let me tell you, it's no fun ripping out tile and chipboard... especially when they glued and stapled the chipboard down with hundreds of one inch staples. Man, if I ever ran across the people that did some of the work in this house, I'd have a word or two for them!
Anyway, that's our weekend. It's not over, so I should get to bed. It's going to be an early start tomorrow.
